ABOUT MESTRE BOM JESUS
Bom
Jesus was born in Bom Jesus City, ES,
Brazil, where his interest in capoeira
began at the age of ten. He began his
formal training under Mestre Capixaba.
After years of training he opened his own
school in Vilha Velha, Brazil, where he
taught for five years. In 1991 he decided
to come to the United States to teach
capoeira. He soon became a member of Dance
Brazil by invitation from Mestre Jelon
Vieira, with whom he toured
internationally for a number of years. He
has also been teaching in New York City
since that time. He also gives regular
workshops at Yale university in New Haven,
CT. He opened the Capoeira Performance
Arts Center in October of 2002. In 2005,
Bom Jesus was promoted to Mestre.

ABOUT MESTRE ARIRANHA
Ariranha was
born in Vitoria where he began training
capoeira at a very young age. Eventually
he found Mestre Capixaba, whom he began
formally training under since. Ariranha
trained and taught capoeira in Brazil
until the mid 1990's when he move to Santa
Cruz to open classes there. After
successfully establishing a group there
for many years he moved to Westerchester,
NY in 2003. Since then he has begun
building a group and name for himself
there. Ariranha is author to many famous
capoeira songs and is a master musician.
In 2005, Ariranha was also promoted to
Mestre.

ABOUT MESTRE CARIOCA
Carioca was born in Rio De Janeiro,
Brazil, and began playing capoeira at age
12. Carioca trained in Bom Jesus and Vila
Velha, Brazil with his first teacher, Bom
Jesus. When Bom Jesus left for the United
States, Carioca Carioca then went to
Vitoria to train under the very skilled
and respected Mestre Capixaba of the
ABADA-Capoeira group. Carioca started
teaching Capoeira in 1990. In 1997
Carioca moved to Texas to begin teaching
Capoeira to troubled youths. In 1998, on
invitation from Bom Jesus, Carioca then
moved to NY where he has been teaching and
performing since. In 2007, Carioca
was promoted to red cord, by Mestre
Capixaba.

ABOUT INSTRUTOR QUEIXO
Queixo began training Tae Kwon Do as a
child, earning his black belt by age 16.
He began training capoeira in NYC with
Mestre Bom Jesus in 1998. His
formation as a capoeirista has taken him
on multiple trips to Brazil and throughout
the United States. In 2003, Mestre
Bom Jesus graduated Queixo to Blue Cord, a
Graduated Student. In 2004, Queixo
and his wife Linda moved to Charleston,
South Carolina and started the State's
first Capoeira Group. In 2006, Queixo received his Green Cord from Mestre
Bom Jesus. Since moving to
Charleston, Queixo has hosted 5
successful batizado events. In
2009, Queixo was promoted to Purple
cord(Intrutor) by Mestre Bom Jesus.

ABOUT CAPOEIRA CHARLESTON
Capoeira Charleston is the
first capoeira group in Charleston , South
Carolina. Class began in January 2005,
and the classes have grown to 40+
members. Capoeira Charleston is dedicated
to introducing and spreading Capoeira, and
Brazilian culture to the Charleston area.
The group is headed by Instrutor Queixo, a
graduated student of Mestre Bom Jesus. The
group is active in the community, giving
free class in the College of Charleston
and has participated in multiple free
workshops for youths at the St.
Matthew's outreach program. The group has
also performed for the 2006 Spoleto
Festival. Capoeira
Charleston is available for demonstrations
and shows including capoeira, maculele and
samba.
